BIOGRAPHY
Rob Base, born Robert Ginyard on May 18, 1967, is an American rapper best known for his collaboration with DJ E-Z Rock. Together, they formed the hip-hop duo Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock, and they achieved significant success in the late 1980s with their hit single "It Takes Two."
"It Takes Two," released in 1988, became one of the most iconic and enduring tracks in hip-hop history. The song's infectious beat, sampled from Lyn Collins' "Think (About It)," combined with Rob Base's energetic delivery and DJ E-Z Rock's production, made it a crossover hit that reached mainstream audiences. The catchy refrain, "It takes two to make a thing go right, it takes two to make it outta sight," became a hip-hop anthem.
The success of "It Takes Two" propelled Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock to stardom, and they released their debut album of the same name in 1988. The album featured other tracks, but none matched the widespread popularity of the title track.
Despite the duo's significant impact on the hip-hop scene, they faced challenges sustaining their success in the years following "It Takes Two." DJ E-Z Rock tragically passed away in 2014, but Rob Base continued to perform and maintain a presence in the hip-hop community.
Rob Base's legacy is firmly tied to the enduring success of "It Takes Two," which continues to be celebrated and sampled in various musical genres. The song's influence extends beyond its initial release, making Rob Base a notable figure in the history of hip-hop, particularly during the late 1980s.
