KRS-One, born Lawrence Krisna Parker on August 20, 1965, is an American rapper, record producer, and hip-hop pioneer. Known for his influential contributions to the culture and the genre, KRS-One is celebrated for his conscious and socially aware lyrics, his advocacy for hip-hop education, and his role in shaping the early landscape of hip-hop.
KRS-One's journey in hip-hop began as a member of Boogie Down Productions (BDP), a group he co-founded with DJ Scott La Rock. BDP's debut album, "Criminal Minded" (1987), is considered a classic and is often cited as one of the most influential albums in the history of hip-hop. The album addressed social issues and showcased KRS-One's distinctive delivery and intricate rhyme schemes.
Tragically, DJ Scott La Rock was killed shortly after the release of "Criminal Minded," but KRS-One continued to carry the torch for BDP.
