69 Boyz was formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1993. The group's original members included Thrill Da Playa (Albert Bryant), Fast (Carlos "Fast" Faison), Slow (Greg Thomas), and Rottweiler (Eric "Rottweiler" Milteer). Their name is a play on the sexual connotation of the number 69 and the term "boyz," reflecting the group's focus on party anthems and dance music.
In 1994, 69 Boyz gained widespread recognition with the release of their debut album, "199Quad," which included the hit single "Tootsee Roll." "Tootsee Roll" became a cultural phenomenon and a staple in the Miami bass and booty shake music scenes. The accompanying dance, known as the "Tootsee Roll" dance, further propelled the song's popularity.
The success of "Tootsee Roll" led to the album achieving platinum status and solidified 69 Boyz as prominent figures in the Southern hip-hop and dance music scenes. The album also featured other tracks like "Kitty Kitty" and "Ding Dong Song," contributing to the group's reputation for catchy and danceable tracks.
In the following years, 69 Boyz continued to release music, including the albums "2069" (1998) and "Trunk Funk: The Packaged Deal" (2000). While subsequent releases didn't achieve the same level of commercial success as their debut, 69 Boyz maintained a presence in the party and dance music scenes.
69 Boyz's music is characterized by its energetic beats, catchy hooks, and lyrics that encourage dancing and celebration. They are often associated with the Miami bass and booty shake genres, which were popular in the Southeastern United States during the 1990s.
The group's impact on the Southern hip-hop and dance music scenes is recognized for their ability to create infectious party anthems. While their commercial peak was in the 1990s, 69 Boyz remains celebrated for their contributions to the lively and energetic subgenres of hip-hop and dance music.
