BIOGRAPHY

Silk was formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1989, and the original lineup consisted of Gary "Big G" Glenn, Timothy "Timzo" Cameron, Jimmy Gates, Jonathan "John-John" Rasboro, Gary "Lil G" Jenkins, and Gary "Suge" Jenkins. The group's name "Silk" reflects their aim to create music that was as smooth as silk.

In 1992, Silk signed with Elektra Records, and their self-titled debut album, "Silk," was released. The album included the hit single "Freak Me," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became a classic R&B slow jam. "Freak Me" solidified Silk's status as a prominent group in the new jack swing era.

Silk's second album, "Lose Control" (1992), featured the singles "Girl U For Me" and "Happy Days." The group continued to release successful albums throughout the 1990s, including "Silk" (1995), "Tonight" (1999), and "Love Session" (2001). These albums showcased their signature harmonies and romantic lyrics.

One of Silk's notable achievements is their ability to blend traditional R&B elements with contemporary sounds, maintaining a consistent presence in the evolving R&B landscape. The group's music often explored themes of love, sensuality, and relationships.

While the lineup changed over the years, with some members departing and new members joining, Silk continued to release music into the 2000s. Their catalog includes a mix of chart-topping singles and deep album cuts that appeal to fans of classic R&B.

Silk's contribution to R&B is marked by their smooth vocal arrangements and their ability to deliver soulful ballads. Their impact on the genre, particularly during the 1990s, is remembered fondly by fans of R&B and contemporary soul music.
