Shirley Murdock was born on May 22, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio. She began her music career in the gospel genre, singing in the church choir. Her talent was evident from a young age, and she soon transitioned into the world of R&B and soul.
In the mid-1980s, Shirley Murdock gained widespread recognition with her association with the legendary funk musician Roger Troutman and his band Zapp. She collaborated with Zapp on the ballad "Computer Love," which became a major hit. This collaboration marked the beginning of her solo career.
