BIOGRAPHY

Lakeside was formed in 1969 in Dayton, Ohio, originally known as the Montereys. The founding members included Mark Wood, Tiemeyer McCain, Norman Beavers, Fred Lewis, and Stephen Shockley. The band adopted the name Lakeside in the early 1970s, inspired by their hometown's proximity to several lakes.

In the mid-1970s, Lakeside signed with the ABC-distributed Solar Records and released a string of albums that solidified their presence in the funk and R&B scene. Their early albums, including "Fantastic Voyage" (1980) and "Your Wish Is My Command" (1981), featured a mix of funk, soul, and dance music.

Lakeside's breakthrough came with the release of the album "Fantastic Voyage," which included the title track, a funk anthem that became one of their most iconic songs. The album also featured the hit singles "Your Love Is on the One" and "I Can't Get You Out of My Head."

In 1983, Lakeside released the album "Shot of Love," which included the successful single "Outrageous." The band's ability to fuse catchy melodies with funky rhythms contributed to their popularity during the funk and dance music era of the early 1980s.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Lakeside continued to release albums, including "Power" (1987) and "Lakeside Live" (1995). While they may not have replicated the commercial success of their earlier years, Lakeside maintained a dedicated fan base and continued to be recognized for their contributions to funk and R&B.

Lakeside's music often featured themes of love, romance, and partying, and their upbeat and infectious tracks made them a favorite on the dance floors. Their legacy is celebrated not only for their chart-topping hits but also for their influence on the funk genre.

Lakeside has remained active, with various members continuing to perform under the Lakeside name. Their music continues to be appreciated by fans of funk and R&B, and they are remembered as key contributors to the vibrant musical landscape of the 1980s.
