BIOGRAPHY
Klymaxx was formed in Los Angeles, California, in the late 1970s. The original members included Bernadette Cooper, Lorena Porter (later known as Lorena Stewart), Cheryl Cooley, Robbin Grider, Lynn Malsby, and Joyce "Fenderella" Irby. The group initially played as a funk band before transitioning to R&B.
In 1981, Klymaxx signed with Solar Records and released their debut album, "Never Underestimate the Power of a Woman." The album featured the single "I Want to Love You Tonight," which gained attention but didn't achieve significant commercial success.
The turning point for Klymaxx came with their fourth album, "Meeting in the Ladies Room" (1984), which included the hit single "The Men All Pause." The album's success marked the beginning of Klymaxx's rise in the R&B and pop charts. Another hit from the album was the title track, "Meeting in the Ladies Room."
In 1985, Klymaxx released the album "Klymaxx," which featured their most successful and well-known single, "I Miss You." The ballad became a chart-topping hit and remains a classic in R&B music.
The group continued to release albums throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, including "Girls Will Be Girls" (1986), "Klymaxx" (1986), and "The Maxx Is Back" (1990). Some other notable hits include "Lock and Key," "Man Size Love," and "Good Love."
Despite changes in the lineup over the years, Klymaxx's impact on the R&B and funk genres remains significant. Their energetic and dynamic performances, along with their catchy and memorable songs, contributed to their popularity during the height of their career.
Klymaxx members have continued to perform in various capacities, and their music remains a nostalgic favorite for fans of 1980s R&B and funk.
