Cedric "K-Ci" Hailey and Joel "JoJo" Hailey were born in Charlotte, North Carolina, and began their musical journey as members of the R&B quartet Jodeci, which also included their other two brothers. Jodeci rose to prominence in the early 1990s and was known for its fusion of R&B, soul, and hip-hop, contributing to the New Jack Swing movement.

In 1996, K-Ci & JoJo stepped into the spotlight as a duo with the release of their debut album, "Love Always." The album featured the chart-topping hit "All My Life," a romantic ballad that became a wedding anthem and one of their most iconic songs. "Love Always" showcased the duo's soulful harmonies and marked the beginning of their successful career as a duo.
