BIOGRAPHY

Bell Biv DeVoe was formed in 1989 by Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe, who were all members of the legendary R&B group New Edition. The trio decided to explore a new musical direction that incorporated elements of hip hop, new jack swing, and R&B. Their unique style set them apart from the traditional sound of New Edition.

In 1990, Bell Biv DeVoe released their debut album, "Poison," which became a major commercial success. The title track, "Poison," is one of their most well-known hits and is considered a classic of the new jack swing era. The album also featured other popular songs like "Do Me!" and "B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)."

"Poison" marked the beginning of Bell Biv DeVoe's independent career, and the trio continued to make music throughout the 1990s. Their second album, "Hootie Mack" (1993), included tracks like "Above the Rim" and "Gangsta," showcasing their ability to blend R&B with hip hop elements.

While the members of Bell Biv DeVoe occasionally reunited with New Edition for special projects, they continued to release solo and group albums over the years. The group's impact on the R&B and hip hop landscape is evident in their influence on subsequent artists who embraced the fusion of R&B and hip hop.

Bell Biv DeVoe's ability to successfully transition from a member of a successful boy band to a distinct and innovative R&B group solidified their place in the history of 1990s music. Their contributions to the new jack swing genre and their enduring popularity have cemented their legacy in the world of R&B.
