Alexander O'Neal was born on November 15, 1953, in Natchez, Mississippi. His interest in music developed early in life, and he honed his vocal skills singing in gospel choirs. In the late 1970s, O'Neal joined the band Flyte Tyme, where he crossed paths with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who would later become influential producers in the music industry.
In 1985, Alexander O'Neal released his debut solo album, titled "Alexander O'Neal." The album featured the hit singles "Innocent" and "Saturday Love," a duet with Cherrelle. The collaboration with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis played a crucial role in the success of the album, establishing O'Neal as a notable R&B artist.
